Content of macro- and microelements in bee honeys with regard to variety and country of origin
Summary.

In 2012, 46 samples of honeys were purchased at a retail network in the eastern Poland: coniferous honeydew (8), multifloral (8), buckwheat (12), linden (9) and robinia (9). These products came from Poland (25 samples) and other countries (21 samples). The content of K, Ca, Na, Mg, Fe and Zn was determined by Varian AA 240FS spectrometer using the flame technique. The content of Cu and Mn was determined by AA 240Z spectrometer (Varian) using the graphite furnace technique. The analysed minerals showed large differences in the content between individual samples, which was probably related to their different botanical origin. Evaluated honeys were characterised by the highest content of K, which accounted 82% of all investigated elements in the honey from Poland and 77% in honeys from other countries. Results showed a significant effect of the variety on the content of K (p ≤ 0.01) and Na, Ca, Mn and Cu (p ≤ 0.05). The results showed a significant (p ≤ 0.05) influence of the country of origin on the content of Na which amounted 58.7 mg/kg in Polish honeys and 114.5 mg/kg in honeys from other countries. In the case of interaction of variety and country of origin, the significant correlation was observed only for the content of Ca (p ≤ 0.05). Honeys purchased at the retail network in eastern Poland (except for one sample) meet the requirements for the allowable limit for Cu and Zn contamination.
