What are the introduction, acclimatization and naturalization of woody species?
Summary.

In their issue of integration of alien species to flora of Poland, different writers use such concepts as introduction, acclimatization or naturalization. The first term is defined similarly in various positions of the professional literature. There are, however, differences as far as the other two are concerned. Numerous species of foreign origin show high suitability for growing in Poland. Many of them deserve wider distribution in green areas and gardens. It should be taken into account that plants, which have conditions as close as possible to the natural, ones favour for their adaptation, behave differently than those that grow in habitats not corresponding to their needs. Clearly it is in the case of plants that require specific conditions, e.g. rhododendrons and azaleas. In turn, taxa easily-acclimatized, can become a threat to the representatives of the native flora and whole ecosystems (invasion).

Key words: introduction, acclimatization, naturalization, woody species
