Receiving of bioethanol from raw materials consisting of cellulose with the ionic liquid utilisation
Summary.

The main purpose of the work was to evaluate the influence of the pretreatment of microcrystalline cellulose and cotton with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate on the hydrolysis and ethanol fermentation of these raw materials. Moreover, the usability of 1-ethyl-3-methylimi­dazolium acetate for the pretreatment of rye straw was estimated. It was found that the pretreatment of cotton and microcrystalline cellulose with the ionic liquid results in recrystallization of these materials from the structure of cellulose I to the cellulose II, as well as in the reduction of their relative crystallinity. However, no effect on the effectiveness of ethanol production has been found. 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate does not inhibit the growth of the yeast cells, and does not negatively influence their viability. Pretreatment of the rye straw with ionic liquid enables the enzymatic hydrolysis of this raw material. Nevertheless, the ethanol productivity from 1 g of glucose obtained that way was twice lower than in the case when microcrystalline cellulose or cotton were used as raw materials.
