Removal of impurities from water by means of integrated systems including membrane filtration
Summary.

The results of the study of the water treatment with the use of integrated processes of photocatalysis, ion exchange (MIEX®DOC) and ultrafiltration are shown in the paper. The influence of the exposure time (0.5-3 h) and the catalyst dose (0.25-0.75 g TiO2 per 1 dm3) on the degradation of natural organic matter (NOM) in water treatment during photocatalysis was investigated. The influence of the ion exchange resin (MIEX®) dose (5, 10 cm3/dm3) on the transport properties of ultrafiltration membrane and on the quality of treated water was determined during MIEX®DOC process. It was found that the application of integrated systems of photocatalysis-UF and MIEX®DOC-UF resulted in production of water of high quality and also the coating/blocking of UF membrane surface and pores was limited. In both cases UF membrane polished the treated water decreasing its color, UV254 absorbance and the concentration of dissolved organic carbon, while UF as a single process was ineffective considering the removal of impurities and the decrease of volumetric permeat stream.
