The content of nitrogen in ground water and midfield pond water in the agricultural microcatchment in the Gniezno Lakeland area
Summary.

The study on nitrogen content in ground and pond water was conducted at the Mokronosy Experimental Station in the years 1994-2003 as a part of long-term investigations of ground water and pond water quality. Mean content of nitrates and ammonia for two-month periods showed periodical variations during year in the ground water as well as in water in pond.
In the ground water the contents of nitrates were 21 to 45 times higher than the ammonia content. During summer months the ammonia content in the pond was three times higher than that of nitrates. On the other hand during drainage water inflow mean concentration of nitrates in pond was 11-times higher than ammonia. During the investigation period the sum of nitrates and ammonia in ground water varied from 7.4 mg·dm-3 in two last months of the year, to 14.3 mg·dm-3 in September and October and were from two to eighteen times higher than the concentration in the pond water.

Key words: ground water quality, pond water quality, nitrates, ammonia
