Optimization of the thermophilic phase in the process of co – composting sewage sludge and municipal waste
Summary.

This paper attempts to optimise the thermophilic phase in composting process of municipal sewage sludge, sludge from meat industry and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste. Six trials were conducted in which variables were the content and type of sewage sludge and green waste. We analysed the process temperature, process gases (CO2 and O2) and the presence of Salmonella Sp. and live eggs of Ascaris, Trichuris and Toxocara before and after the process. The obtained results confirmed earlier observations that the main parameter governing the amount of temperature and its duration is the weight of green waste. Optimal composition of mixtures, providing an appropriate level of hygienization to obtain compost is the use of proportion by weight: 20% – sewage sludge, 40% – green waste, 30% – the organic fraction of municipal waste, 10% – sawdust.
