Changes of the molds number and the proteolytic activity of sewage sludge in controlled conditions composting
Summary.

The paper presents microbiological characteristics of sewage sludge from the sewage treatment plant, in controlled conditions with biowastes (straw, sawdust, bark). In the experiment the material was mixed in the appropriate weight proportions and located in bioreactor chambers with a constant air flow. The performed composting process aimed at the determination of the development dynamics of mesophilic and thermophilic fungi (molds) and proteolytic activity of sewage sludge, composted with different additions in a cybernetic bioreactor. Compost samples were taken for laboratory analysis with reference to the temperature value in biowastes. Microbio­logical analyses were carried out on selective medium using the plate method, and the activity of protease was identified by spectrophotometric method. It was estimated that the composition of compost did not interact with the number of mesophilic and thermophilic fungi while composting process, but it interacted with protease activity in compost. Existence of relation between the decrease of microorganisms number and increase of values of temperature and pH was observed. In case of thermophilic fungi, this phenomenon was not noted.
