Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) tolerance to salinity
Part I. Differentiation of chemical composition of nutrient solution in root zone
Abstract.

The main aim of the conducted studies was estimation of applying nutrient solutions effect with increasing salinity level on the chemical changes of root environment in case of two cultivars of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) grown in rockwool. In all of the tested combinations, as a result of increasing concentration, most of nutrients increasing salinity was found of nutrient solutions (expressed as EC) representing root environment with relation to nutrient solution applied to plants. Nutrients which concentration increased in root zone were (%): Cl (+234.1) > Ca (+63.8) > Na (+63.5) > S-SO4 (+47.3) > N-NO3 (+31.1) > Mg (+16.7) > Zn (+16.2) > Cu (+10.3) > Mn (+10.2) > N-NH4 (+2.3), EC increased by about 9.4%, while the series of decreasing contents was (%): Fe (–48.5) > P (–10.5) > K (–7.5).
