Soil organic matter balance in selected farms situated in sensitive catchment areas
Abstract.

The main aim of the presented work was to analyse soil organic matter balance in selected private farms placed in sensitive catchment areas. The surveys led in 2004-2006 years covered 65 farms located in nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZ) in South and Central Wielkopolska Region. Private farms were characterised by various types and levels of production. Results of soil organic matter balance and the structure of balance were presented. Mean stocking density in farms with livestock did not exceed the established by “Good farming practice code” 1.5 LSU∙ha-1 and reached 1.4 LSU∙ha-1. Surveys showed in most of the farms positive level of organic matter in soil (mean 1.5 t·ha-1). The main sources of organic matter in agricultural land were solid manure and straw. The greatest share in output had cereals, industrial plants and corn.

Keywords: organic matter balance, good farming practice, nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZ), private farms
