Background. According to the latest inventory by Batycki (2006), there were 34 natural monuments in Poznań. In 2016 the inventory was updated to determine qualitative and quantitative changes, to identify the most important threats and to make recommendations for protection.
Material and methods. The GPS location of all objects was given. The circumference and height of each tree was measured. Erratic boulders were inventoried. In addition, the health of the trees and the condition of the boulders was determined.
Results. In 2016 there were 32 natural monuments in Poznań, including eight avenues, five groups of trees, 16 individual trees and three erratic boulders, mainly located in the central and northern parts of the city. There were 906 objects protected by law, including 903 trees with the status of natural monuments (31 species) and three erratic boulders. Aesculus hippocastanum, Platanus ×hispanica and Tilia cordata were the most common tree species. The circumferences of the trees ranged from 14 to 590 cm, while the heights ranged from 2 to 34 m. The trees were usually in good, very good or in average health. The erratic boulders were in very good condition.
Conclusions. The condition of natural monuments in the city of Poznań was diversified. The most negative changes were noted in the avenues. Many trees require treatment and should be marked with new identification plates. The total number of natural monuments in Poznań was found to be very small. Therefore, actions should be taken to increase their number.
