EFFECT OF FUSARIUM CULMORUM ON THE MAIZE ROOTS DEVELOPMENT IN DEPENDENCE FROM DOSES OF NITROGEN AND THE METHOD OF FERTILIZATION
Summary. The experiment was carried out at the Department of Plant and Soil Cultivation, Agricultural University of Poznań in 2004-2005. Four doses of nitrogen: 0.6, 1.2, 1.8 and 2.4 g•pot-1, and two methods of fertilization: broadcast and row application (with fertilizer placed 5 cm off the side and 5 cm below the grains) and two kinds of grains (without inoculation and with inoculation F. culmorum) were used. The influence of nitrogen content in the soil, the way of application and additionally the way of fungal inoculation with F. culmorum, on the maize roots development were estimated. Plants used at the experiment were in to ages: 3-4 and 4-5 fully expanded leaves. The better method of nutrient application occurred in rows fertilization. Inoculation of seeds with fungus decreased the length and area of roots at both ages of plants. The better method of nitrogen feeding in rows fertilization and plants inoculation caused lowering of root length and surface as well.
